Why not let people get the facts on how to talk about points of their political party?

In the article http://mises.org/daily/3981 bound, a professor of economics emphasizes the facts on the talking points of Paul Krugman. In Krugman's worldview, everything was perfect until 1980 when the evil Ronald Reagan came along and "deregulation" in any part of an experiment in free markets. In reality, each part of the world view of Krugman is wrong. This also happens with Republicans as well. Many Republicans stuck to the point of talking about how Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction long after the evidence had debunked. Why is it so difficult for people to base their beliefs on facts rather that the points of discussion?

I first witnessed this attitude in the church that people read verses from the Bible to enforce their preconceived notions of what God wants us to do. They neglect or look for a way to explain a verse that seems contridiction what they believe, but then take another verse out of context to support their preconceptions.
